Bought this CD hoping that it wouldn't be a cheaply-produced, put-together-in-5-minutes CD, and I was glad to find it was not. Unsurprisingly, Clay turns in the best performance on the CD, effortlessly bringing a new sound to the classic "On The Wings of Love" .. his voice is just naturally perfect. Good to see he's stopped over-annunciating his words quite a bit. The surprises on here were the really good quality of performances delivered by Kimberly Caldwell (she sounds great on "Killing Me Softly") and the under-appreciated Charles Grigsby. When he sings "Overjoyed" he actually sounds like he means it - and it sounds great. I hope these two find success outside of the largely-fixed American Idol. Unimpressive were Julia Damato (she makes the soulful "At Last" sound like a country song sang at a picnic) and the heinous Corey Clark (his vocal cords sound stretched beyond the limit and in danger of snapping through most of "Open Arms"), and Lashundr.....err..... Trenyce sounds OK on "Let's Stay Together" but she DOES have a good voice, and could have chosen a more fitting (though preferably non-Whitney) song to sing. Kimberly Locke will also put out a great CD, I'm sure, as will Ruben. Overall worth the investment, but skip the cheesy group numbers

So, I actually went with my Little Sister from Big Brothers Big Sisters to the American Idol concert via some tickets that came from a generous donor. I was really impressed and I'm twice the age of my LIttle Sister. I enjoyed the concert so much that I wanted to get the CD. I was a little disappointed that there were a few songs not on the CD but I love what's on it! Comment |

Siobhan Magnus shows off her amazing vocal range and ability on Paint it Black. I wish they had more tracks of her recordings on this cd. Didi Benami's take on Play with Fire is just as thrilling as the live version. This style realling suits Didi. Katie Stevens' vocals were strong and inspiring on Let it Be. I am glad that they included Casey James singing Jealous Guy. One of my favorite songs from this season. Also, Aaron Kelly did well on I don't want to miss a thing, but I wish they had included his version of Angie, instead. Lee, Mike, Tim, and Crystal's songs were okay, too. They sounded much better in the recording studio than live (which is typical of recording artists).

If you like American Idol, you will love this DVD, especially if you were not tuned in to the early seasons. You get the highlights without being dragged through the debacles, and there is a minimum of filler. There is a manufacturing glitch in the current version however, which makes 3 out of 4 of the season reviews (I'm guessing about 25% of the content) unwatchable. A replacement disk had the same problem, and on different DVD players. The good news is that Amazon.com was fantastic in their response (

This is the "Worst of American Idol" and they've certainly put it together. If you just can't help looking at those crazy, wacky people who come on to this show (and yes, I can't help), then you'll love this DVD. This DVD has everything you could want as far as that goes. You get the full auditions or arguments of such people as Tamika (It's TA-MEE-KA! TA-*MEE*-KA!) Bush, Adam and Dirk, William Hung and more. Oh yes, there's William Hung. You'll get his entire audition, never shown before as well as full-on performance with accompanying music and girl dancers. You'll also get crazy medlies of Christmas songs, America the Beautiful, fashion faux pas and more. A lot of the content is presented in an approximately hour long highlight reel, with some commentary by Paula Abdul. But the really "good" stuff, as described above, is in separate Special Features.

For me the best part of American Idol is watching the horrible audtions at the start of each season. These poor souls actually believe they have what it takes to make it to the big time. The sad part is they REALLY believe they can make it, sometimes they have family members who encourage them. Some say that these have to be fakes, people can't be this bad. Well they can be, they can't be that good of actors!! This DVD has some of the best worst performances from the first four seasons. You get William Hung, you get that guy singing "Like A Virgin", you get my personal favorite, Mary Roach. You've got to credit these people for at least having the guts to get up there and try. Now for the part that's not so great about this set. Many of the songs have been cut, I would guess because they couldn't get the rights to them. By cutting out the songs, you don't really get to see why they are being so harshly judged. So the judges come off as being rude for no real reason. Aside from that, this DVD is great fun. But again how many of us would have the guts to get up there ourselves??
